The article aims to analyze the social formation of citizens based on the postulates of Jean-Jacques Rousseau (1712-1778) and the link between the social contract and his pedagogy. The problem lies in understanding the author's production in the context of the economic, social and political transformations of 18th century France. This is a historical and bibliographical analysis, based on the theoretical framework of historical-dialectical materialism. Rousseau, moved by the ideal of man's emancipation from social conventions and obstacles, defended education as the safest way to achieve this goal. In opposition to traditional teaching, the author highlighted the importance of respecting the child's natural development. It is concluded that, by proposing a new education, Rousseau outlined a new model of society
