L'A. affirme que Cuba connait de graves difficultes economiques provoquees par l'embargo americain et par l'effondrement de l'Union sovietique. Il souligne que le tourisme qui s'est developpe, est apparu comme une source de revenu et qu'une economie non-officielle, liee notamment a la prostitution, a fait son apparition. Il examine la situation de la prostitution depuis 1959. Il s'efforce d'identifier les caracteristiques sociales des individus qui se rendent a Cuba et qui pratiquent le « tourisme sexuel » dans ce pays
