The abandonment of teaching and the shortage of qualified teachers is a concerning phenomenon that affects the quality of education and the stability of school systems in several countries. This research, based on quantitative and qualitative methodologies, presents updated data on teacher resignations in different countries. In Spain, no official data is published on this topic, a fact that complicates the assessment of the phenomenon; furthermore, educational responsibilities are decentralized in the autonomous communities. In Catalonia, union publishes information on the difficulties in filling teacher vacancies in various specialties. The research also includes interviews with three teachers who left the profession. These teachers, men between the ages of 38 and 52, with 9 to 18 years of professional experience, provide direct testimony on the reasons for their resignation. The significance of the study lies in its ability to delve into a current and relevant topic, both in the international context and in Spain and Catalonia. Understanding the phenomenon and the need to adopt measures to improve teachers' working conditions are essential to ensure the quality of education in a complex and changing global context
