The current study explored ethnicity differences in the links between cultural values and well-being. Participants (n = 945) were asked to complete surveys of psychological well-being (PWB) and values of individualism and collectivism based on different reference groups, including kin (parents, siblings, and relatives), nonkin (friends, colleagues, visitors, and neighbors), and general others. The results demonstrated that well-being among African Americans, Latin Americans and European Americans was linked to more collectivism and less individualism with peers, and more individualism with general others. Well-being for Asian Americans was linked to both individualism and collectivism with family, more collectivism with general others, and less individualism with peers. Well-being for Indigenous Peoples was linked to more collectivism and less individualism with family, less collectivism with peers, and more individualism with general others. Taken together, these results suggest that the relationship between cultural values and well-being is nuanced, based on ethnicity. Implications for the importance of cultural competency in clinical practice are discussed
