The author discusses the development of his sculpture, over a period of several decades, as an intuitive art of visual mathematics. He describes in detail a recent motif cycle in which locally minimal surfaces are deployed in toroids. Also discussed is the artist’s collaboration with computer scientist Carlo Séquin, which has led to a virtual prototyping program developed by Séquin for this motif cycle. This computer program furthers the evolution of the artist’s body of work beyond what would previously have been possible
