20世紀末にはじまったゲノム研究は,ヒトゲノム解読をひとつの到達点とした。しかしそれは終わりではなく,始まりだった。ヒトゲノム配列をもとにして膨大なSNPやマイクロサテライト多型の研究が急激に進み,小数の古典多型マーカーを用いた従来の研究成果を追認しつつ,日本列島人の遺伝的多様性についても新しい光が当てられつつある。また個々人のゲノム配列を決定する研究も進展している。これらヒトゲノム研究の新しい地平を紹介した
