Devised by the philosopher Rudolf Arnheim with a view to reconciling cognitive and aesthetic approaches, the notion of "visual thought" is, in today's technocultural climate, taking on an epistemological value. Besides the "geological" movements which it generates within social practices of communication and memory, by giving the image an identity and functionality based on logic, information economy highlights a new type of praxis : empirical or theoretical visual-virtual experimentation with ordinary objects. On the basis of such a praxis, the notion of visual thought affirms: I/The conceptual fertility of visual form; 2/The possibility of visualizing the "objects of thought". It denotes: I/the exercise of a different level of intelligence (thought as art); 2/the need for another concept of art (art as thought). It thereby leads to the opening of new areas of research and visual experiments which combine artistic creation and scientific exploration
