Identification and Distance in Literature: Reflections on the Art of Borges. Story-telling is based on generating images. Identification gets the reader to co-operate in telling the story. To distance reader and story, various techniques can be used - none stronger than Borges's, who attacks the making of images through his tales, and vice-versa
