Au premier abord, l’enseignement réciproque et le tutorat réciproque se présentent comme des méthodes plutôt proches et quelque peu paradoxales, d’où l’intérêt de les examiner dans la mouvance de ceux qui en ont été les promoteurs. Une démarche qui, pour indispensable qu’elle soit, mérite d’être complétée par des études relatives à l’usage, l’intérêt, les apports ou les limites de ces deux méthodes pédagogiques dans le domaine scolaire. Des analyses comparatives s’imposent également pour identifier leurs aspects distinctifs et leurs éventuels points communs. C’est là qu’apparaissent des éléments essentiels comme, par exemple, quand l’un amène un partenaire de travail à s’approprier un texte, l’autre l’aide dans la découverte d’une activité. Il y a bien des avantages et des inconvénients dans chacune d’elles mais, plus profondément, elles reposent sur des bases scientifiques repérées dans les psychologies piagétienne et vygotskienne d’où, certainement, quelques difficultés pour essayer de les rapprocher
