L'analyse structurelle des mouvements sociaux italiens identifie les facteurs objectifs qui ont produit les conditions de soudain developpement de la Ligue lombarde. La chute du systeme centre-peripherie de l'integration politique et sociale, jusqu'alors fortement utilise par le Parti Democrate Chretien, a cree des opportunites grâce auxquelles une nouvelle force sociale pouvait tenter de constituer un nouveau mouvement politique. De plus les capacites entrepreneuriales de Bossi expliquent pourquoi la Ligue a reussi aussi rapidement. Melanger une ideologie populiste aux effets negatifs d'un centre politique domine par des partis corrompus a favorise la constitution d'un tel mouvement
