Repositories of Ideas for Punishment: A Textual Navigation Through the Draft Bills of the Criminal Enforcement Law (1935-1983) This article examines the draft bills of the Brazilian Criminal Enforcement Law (1935–1983), as well as the 1984 Criminal Enforcement Law itself and its subsequent amendments, as repositories of ideas that shaped ways of organizing punishment, regulating conduct, and structuring prison space. Through a close textual navigation, it discusses themes such as criminal records, criminological assessment, punishment cells, the typologies of penal institutions, and spatial markers. By highlighting continuities and reformulations, the article demonstrates the persistence of specific legal conceptions within Brazilian penal enforcement and provides a foundation for future research in this field
