Federal funding under the Education for Economic Security Act led to the establishment in 1985 of a Foreign Language Consortium within the Alabama Commission on Higher Education — the body charged with coordinating all fifty‐seven public institutions of higher learning in the State (ACHE). Its charge was to develop and administer projects which would enhance foreign language teacher training. This article describes the nature of the Consortium, the many projects it has funded, and the resulting enhancement of foreign language education in Alabama
