Increasingly, the consultation model has been discussed as a viable means for the delivery of services offered by support service professionals of school systems. When comparing the factors that influenced the development of the principles of consultation to the role specifics of the internally based practitioner, collaboration as an alternative approach would appear worthy of priority consideration
