    Open Access•James C Mcelroy, Paula C Morrow•ARTICLE•Human Relations•2010•Cited by: 10•References: 51

Outcomes associated with an office redesign aimed at decreasing workspace while enhancing perceptions of organizational culture and work-related attitudes are examined within a financial services organization. Findings show that employees assigned to the redesigned office environment report less workspace and more distractions than those who remained in a cubicle environment, but that this finding was moderated by age generation. Employees moved …

  • The measurement of TQM principles and work‐related outcomes

    Open Access•Paula C Morrow•ARTICLE•Journal of Organizational Behavior•1997

Building on the work of Dean and Bowen (1994), this paper proposes measures of the extent to which three TQM principles (i.e. customer focus, continuous improvement, and teamwork) have become an integral part of an organization's culture. The measures are also used to examine the relationship between the implementation of TQM principles and work-related outcomes, to include job satisfaction, communication, and perceptions of the work environment.…

  • Intraorganizational mobility and work related attitudes

    Open Access•James C Mcelroy, Paula C Morrow et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Organizational Behavior•1996•References: 4

Survey responses of 690 employees of a state agency were used to investigate the idea that internal mobility experiences ‘spill over’ to affect a variety of job attitudes and perceptions. Having one's internal mobility expectations met, as opposed to unmet, was associated with more favorable work-related attitudes, a finding not moderated by demographic factors. Furthermore, employees denied a job change for ‘fair’ reasons generally exhibited mor…

  • Personal Space, Personal Appearance, and Personal Selling

    Open Access•James C Mcelroy, Paula C Morrow•ARTICLE•Psychological Reports•1994

Solicitation of funds for a walk-a-thon was used as the basis for a field experiment testing the effects of personal space and personal appearance within a personal selling context. While results for a sample of 48 faculty approached by a confederate were not supportive, analysis of those faculty who contributed suggest how one might study these parameters in personal selling

  • Attitudinal and Behavioral Correlates of Computer Anxiety

    Open Access•Paula C Morrow, Eric R Prell et al.•ARTICLE•Psychological Reports•1986

108 male and 65 female undergraduate students participated in a survey designed to examine 10 potential correlates of computer anxiety. Analysis indicated that self-reported behavioral correlates, particularly those directly associated with computer use, accounted for more of the variance in computer anxiety than personality or attitudinally-based correlates

  • Generalizing Impact of Object Language to other Audiences

    Open Access•James C Mcelroy, Paula C Morrow et al.•ARTICLE•Psychological Reports•1983

Research on the impact of office design has relied on samples of students. To evaluate the external generalizability of previous findings, the relationships among three design elements (desk placement, status symbol display, tidiness) and visitors' impressions (visitors' feelings, attributions about the officerholder) were examined among 64 college faculty. Using a slide-simulation methodology, more favorable visitors' reactions and normatively d…

  • Desk Placement in the Faculty Office

    Open Access•James C Mcelroy, Paula C Morrow•ARTICLE•Psychological Reports•1982

Inconsistent effects of desk placement on visitors' reactions are examined in light of methodological differences employed in studies of office design. Data from a slide-simulated office study based on slides constructed from a “visitor's chair” perspective were compared to previous data. Subjects' reactions to visitor's chair-constructed slides were different from the more traditional “doorway”-constructed slide-simulation studies. The results d…

  • Toward a Sociology of Freedom

    George A Hillery, Charles J Dudley et al.•ARTICLE•Social Forces•1977

Few sociologists have investigated, systematically and empirically, the concept of freedom, as such. In this paper, freedom is explored as it is viewed and experienced by people rather than as a philosophical construct. Three dimensions of freedom are identified: ego, discipline, and conditional. These types of freedom are examined in six types of groups and in relation to feelings of loss of freedom. Finally, we approach a theory of freedom, its…
