This article explores the meaning of education through the semiotic design of young people aged12 to 17 in a Chilean context. The participants engage in a workshop where they create a pre-designed spaceship, instructed to draw, write, cut out, or use any materials they choose to envision thedevelopment of an educational system on a distant planet. The workshop results are analyzed froma multimodal perspective and from a discursive-coupling perspective. In visual terms, the datareveal two primary categories of semiotic production: nature and concepts/values. Verbal feedbackfrom the students indicates a positive, emotional appreciation for the teaching and learning process. In conclusion, students in this study construct the meaning of education based on the value of nature and the interpersonal and community relationships that arise at school.
