Esta investigación presenta un estudio donde se evaluó el impacto de usar gamificación en un ambiente de aprendizaje, diseñado para desarrollar habilidades lectoras en 19 estudiantes de primer año de educación básica. En el estudio mixto cuasi-experimental, se aplicaron pruebas de habilidades metalingüísticas y de lectura inicial, encuestas y observación in situ durante la ejecución del programa. Los resultados del pre- y post-test demostraron que la gamificación permite un aprendizaje eficiente de la lectura. Las respuestas a la encuesta revelaron un alto nivel de motivación a realizar actividades de lectura utilizando equipos de cómputo. Se observó que el ambiente gamificado favorece los procesos de metacognición y el trabajo autónomo factores claves para el aprendizaje de la lectura.
