L'A. s'interroge sur l'impact, aux Etats-Unis, de l'enseignement sociologique en ce qui concerne le racisme et la discrimination ethnique. Il se demande si ce type de cours vehicule un message d'espoir ou de desespoir. Il estime que l'etude de la domination et des discriminations raciales au sein des institutions, dans ce pays, tend a mettre en lumiere une situation tres enracinee. Il montre, en revanche, que ce type d'enseignement peut souligner l'influence et la reussite des programme de lutte contre le racisme et ainsi apporter un message d'espoir
